Compassion Acts was launched in 2019, building on the foundations laid by two important charities in Southport – Southport Foodbank and the Southport and Formby Churches Debt Centre. As a Christian charity, our mission is to provide comprehensive support to individuals in Southport who are in need. We achieve this through a holistic approach that includes food access, welfare and benefit advice, and various forms of social support.
Currently, we operate out of the Victoria Centre, a hub of activity and compassion. Our team consists of 16 dedicated staff members and a board of 8 trustees who provide strategic oversight. Plus, we are very fortunate to have the support of around 220+ volunteers. These volunteers are the backbone of our organisation, contributing their time, energy, and passion to ensure that we can make a difference in the lives of people in our community.
The History of Compassion Acts
2013: Southport Foodbank and Southport CAP Debt Centre was launched at Lakeside Church.
2016: A new charity was formed to merge both charities together, allowing members to easily manage both projects. This was called Southport & Formby Churches Debt Centre Ltd.
2017: Our first Food Pantry was opened at Grace Baptist Church, beginning the expansion of the charity beyond just emergency food parcels.
2019: The charity rebranded as Compassion Acts to encompass the vision and goal.
2021: Our ‘going upstream’ strategy was launched. This solidified the fact Compassion Acts are no longer here only to support those in crisis, we are here to prevent them from ending up in a crisis – catching people before they fall.
2022: Compassion Acts head office moved to The Victoria Centre, Sussex Road. This allows us to continue to expand in every area.
