Over the last 3 years our West Lancs Village Food Pantry has been based in Banks, initially at St Stephens’s social club and later relocating to the Community Centre, on Hoole Lane – the small building which is also base to the village Post Office.
During this time an average of 20 households per week have been fed.
Our Food Pantries are not like our Foodbanks – rather than simply just for those in food crisis, this is a monthly membership that allows long term support with the opportunity to choose what you need and when.
“We are constantly reviewing our services to make sure that people are getting the most appropriate service” says Richard Owens, Compassion Acts CEO.
“The Food Pantry at Banks, although popular with members, was hindered by the small space with not enough chance for social interaction or confidential advice. A chance to open a new Pantry in Tarleton has emerged and it will be a more suitable space”.
“All existing Banks members and volunteers have been given support to transfer to either Tarleton or one of our other services, whichever is most convenient for them”.
“It is an exciting new start for us in the villages of Hesketh Bank, Banks and Tarleton”.
From Monday 5th February 2024 the West Lancs Villages Pantry will be relocated to a new space at Tarleton Methodist Church on Church Road, Tarleton PR4 6UP.
Compassion Acts remains committed to helping people in the village and will keep an open mind about finding another more suitable venue in Banks. The organisation is also working with churches and parish council partners to have a conversation about a Warm Welcome Space in the village, which may also meet some of the needs of villagers.
